Wingin’ It

Peanut Nut Shell Chic

Wing night is a staple of many local bars. Fifty cent wings, drink specials, trivia. What can make the difference between good wings and bad wings is often more than just the sauce. The ambiance and atmosphere of your favorite wing spot is a favorite for a reason. Is it a local sports bar that supports your team? Do they give back to the community? Finding that perfect fit is often trial and error, yet the journey is always worth it.

Reading, Pennsylvania is home to Jimmy Kramer’s Peanut Bar. They are known for their peanut policy, which involves just tossing your shells on the floor. Yes, seriously. They set out bowls of peanuts and you can just brush your shells right onto the floor. Recently, they received the honor of having the 6th best chicken wings in the nation. So while your local hangout might say they have good wings, do they have the accolades to back it up?

On my visit to The Peanut Bar, I order a classic hefeweizen, their famous cheese balls and their award-winning wings. Their hot buffalo wings are the perfect food on a cold winter day. If you are a fan of perfectly crispy, juicy and tender wings, this is the place for you. Their cheese balls are a great appetizer to share with the table or keep all to yourself. I happened to visit during Reading’s 6th annual Fire & Ice Festival Ice Crawl and the atmosphere was electric. The restaurant was packed with guests, and there were plenty of fun local brews available. A unique option was the Reese’s Cup, it involves Yuengling’s Hershey Chocolate Porter and Lancaster Brewing Company’s Fresh Roasted Peanut Ale. Combining these two create the ever-popular Reese’s Cup taste everyone knows and loves.

Whether you are visiting Downtown Reading for a hockey game or you are a local, The Peanut Bar is always a great option. With a daily rotating specials menu and the recent addition of vegan options, it can satisfy any guest.
