Stellar House Gift Shop offers pop-up shops, unique buys

We opened Stellar House Gift Shop in Boyertown, Pa., in October 2021. The shop specializes in colorful, hilarious and unique gifts, pop culture, greeting cards and on occasion, specialty pop ups.
I was born and raised in York, Pa., but prior to moving to Greater Reading, I lived in Philadelphia for 17 years. My husband’s job at the time was relocating to Boyertown, and we moved with them. The moment we drove up the main street in Boyertown, I just felt the potential. So much so, we purchased our home on Philadelphia Avenue, and I turned our living room into Stellar House Gift Shop. I wanted to see a store in town that had sort of the quirky and curated vibes I missed from Philadelphia.
My original business plan was to be a quick “grab and go” gift shop, but it’s turned into so much more. I now throw small- and large-scale pop ups and events where I completely transform the store from floor to ceiling and carry limited merchandise on the occasional weekend. I’ve held a Schitts Creek, “Schitty Valentines Day” weekend, Harry Styles Birthday Party, Parks and Rec event, Taylor Swift Weekend and this year, I’m hosting the second annual Wizarding Weekend. I aim to make shopping here an experience!
My favorite thing about Greater Reading is the location. It’s a relatively easy trip to and from Philadelphia, Lehigh Valley, Chester County and Lancaster County. The support from surrounding communities is great. Social media has connected me with so many other local businesses.
My advice to new business owners is to do your research before jumping in. Figure out if your business has a market in your area, if there is a need or if it’s oversaturated. Figure out what sets you apart, develop a marketing plan and be involved in your community.
