Reading’s Newest Supermarket Brings Fresh Food and Economic Growth

A new supermarket, Super Natural & Fresh Produce III, has opened in Reading at 243 N. 4th Street. The $19 million project, led by grocer Leopoldo Sanchez and supported by $6 million in New Markets Tax Credits from Finanta and other partners, aims to combat food insecurity by providing fresh, affordable food, including Latino-specific items. The 43,000-square-foot facility is expected to serve about 5,900 weekly customers and create 150 jobs. Beyond a traditional grocery store, it includes a cafe, a wholesale distribution warehouse for small grocers and plans for a tortilla manufacturing facility. The project is a key step in revitalizing a long-abandoned building and is expected to boost the local economy significantly.
