Penn State Berks – LaunchBox Stimulates Economic Growth in Greater Reading

Penn State Berks is preparing the students of today for the in-demand careers for tomorrow. With 20 baccalaureate degree programs, and the first two years of more than 275 degree programs that can be completed at other campuses, students have a wide variety of choices.

Two degree programs that are very popular among students, and in-demand with employers, are Mechanical Engineering and Cybersecurity Analytics and Operations. Both degrees lead to a wide range of career opportunities with higher than average growth and salary rates.

The B.S. in Mechanical Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET. ABET is the global leader in accreditation of engineering, engineering technology, computing, and applied science programs, and it is well recognized by employers. Mechanical Engineering is one of the largest and broadest engineering disciplines, involving the study of mechanics, fluid/thermal systems, and system dynamics. In fact, Penn State Berks has the only teaching fluid dynamics lab in the Penn State system.

The Mechanical Engineering program includes both a strong design emphasis and hands-on laboratory experience. Mechanical engineers have tremendous flexibility, working in every type of industry, in jobs ranging from research and development to manufacturing and operations. Mechanical engineers also work in product design, procurement, technical sales, and management. Graduates enter a wide variety of industries such as health care, energy, military, transportation, consumer products, and sports/recreation.

The B.S. in Cybersecurity Analytics and Operations (CYAOP) program prepares students to protect digital information from attack through cyber-defense strategies. Whether it is the hacking of critical datasets by a nation-state, the theft of personal information by cybercriminals, or cyberattacks by terrorist groups or other aggressors, students will analyze security issues from the perspective of human and information systems. They’ll learn to anticipate and identify threats through the mastery of technology, articulate potential impacts to stakeholders, and ensure the safety of online information.
CYAOP graduates are in high demand by top companies and government agencies. Their technical expertise combined with interpersonal skills and business savvy means they have the versatility employers want. Many jobs in the security sector have higher than average levels of flexibility and job satisfaction.
