The Grass is Greener Here
New Castle Lawn & Landscape grows (literally) in Greater Reading
By Tricia Williams, VP of Sales & Marketing, New Castle Lawn & Landscape
New Castle Lawn & Landscape began as a small side hustle in 1988 by two teenage boys on New Castle Drive in Shillington, Pa. The company grew and was officially named New Castle Lawn & Landscape in 1994. At the time of inception, President and co-founder Brian Cuccaro was walking the neighborhood mowing and maintaining as many lawns as he could handle storing equipment out of his, then business partner’s, parent’s garage. The company truly had a small and humble beginnings from a two-man crew and has grown to a $10,000,000 business employing nearly 90 individuals.
In 1999, the business purchased land in Mohton and built a small shop. Soon after, New Castle Lawn & Landscape became incorporated. We have not been without challenges. During the 2008 market crash, the business was forced to lay everyone off. 2018 was a pivotal year for us as we implemented a leadership team and The Traction Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) by Gino Wickman. The very next year, New Castle experienced its best year, which was followed up by being voted the Best Lawn Service Company in Reading Eagle’s Readers Choice Awards. Through retirements and leadership changes, the business has continued to grow.
Greater Reading is an incredible place to live and work. Our approach at New Castle focuses first on giving back to the people and organizations that make up our community. We offer employees paid time off to volunteer in the community. We encourage everyone to get involved! We want to be THE company that people think of when someone is talking about a local company that gives back to the community.
Greater Reading has incredible resources and networks! Get involved. Take advantage of your local chamber, the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance (GRCA)! It works hard to provide opportunities for businesses in the area and its job is to help you succeed! Our team (sea of green) can be found at many of the managerial training courses offered by GRCA as well as its special events.
