For more than 40 years, the Berks Career & Technology Center (BCTC) has been providing career training options designed to help adult students meet their career goals! Adult students can enhance their current skills or train for a new career during the day or in the evening with BCTC’s flexible program offerings.
With over 30 day-time programs, adult students are integrated into secondary programs to receive hands-on career training taught by industry experts in state-of-the-art labs. In less than 2 years, students can earn nationally recognized certifications and industry credentials needed in today’s competitive job market. Federal financial aid is available for most day-time programs.
BCTC is now offering day-time training in Heavy Equipment Operations. Gain experience in the proper use of construction equipment, basic maintenance of the machines, and receive field practice in earth moving, site-preparation, construction site layout, and excavation. Experience the real-world by applying the knowledge learned in the classroom at our off-campus quarry.
Our evening courses provide a cost-effective way to learn new skills on a part-time basis. Classes include theory and hands-on learning opportunities with experienced trainers in a casual atmosphere. Courses are generally shorter in length and are offered in the spring and fall. Program offerings include Apprenticeships programs, Certification Courses, and Trade Prep classes. BCTC is now a Sponsor for the Electrical Registered Apprenticeship program. This designation allows us to oversee training development, provide hands-on learning and technical instruction, while handling the administrative responsibilities for an Electrical Apprentice.
The brand-new state-of-the-art Welding Training Center, located at BCTC’s West Campus, includes 36 welding booths, a fabrication area, and a robotic arm. Adults can choose from several training options, from basic to advanced training in MIG, TIG, stick, pulse, and aluminum tig welding. Upon completion, students are prepared to take several certifications offered through the American Welding Society.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are 10,870 Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) job openings projected annually through 2028. This staggering number ensures that earning a CDL provides endless career opportunities. The BCTC CDL training program includes 114 hours of classroom theory, 44 hours of one-on-one instruction at the range and on the road and a 2-hour road test. Students are well prepared to take and pass the CDL test and begin a career in commercial truck driving.
