Helping Harvest Community Kitchen Celebrates Grand Opening in Reading

The Helping Harvest Community Kitchen, a new 7,200-square-foot facility located adjacent to the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in Reading, is essential to feeding people in need and combating food insecurity. Since its opening in late April, the kitchen has already produced over 8,000 heat-and-eat meals and repackaged 6,000 units of bulk food. This commercial kitchen allows Helping Harvest to accept large-scale food donations it previously had to turn down. The project, which was funded by nearly $20 million in public and private support, will also launch culinary training programs for those re-entering the workforce, including a partnership with Reading Area Community College. With both local and state support, the project serves as a critical partnership that addresses both food distribution and job training needs in the Greater Reading community.
