Camping Innovatively
CarToCamp makes sleeping on-the-go easy
By Nathan Bonslaver, President, CarToCamp
CarToCamp makes Sleeping Platforms for car camping. Simply fold down the back row seats in your SUV, crossover or hatchback and the Sleeping Platform can be assembled in the trunk of your vehicle. When fully set up it provides a flat space to sleep on top and easy to access storage space underneath for camping gear. We make Sleeping Platforms for over 2,000 different vehicles, but the most popular models are the Subaru Outback, Toyota 4Runner and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.
One summer during college I spent two months car camping across the country with my friend in a Subaru Outback. We were able to see 22 states, 15 national parks and camped for free every single night on public lands. This experience encouraged me to start CarToCamp as a way to provide easy-to-use car camping solutions to others who want to set out on extended road trips and explore our beautiful country. I started the business along with two other classmates while studying at Penn State Berks in 2020.
Beyond just the economic impact of bringing work to the area, we’ve been involved with mentoring other new startups in the area as well. We plan to be a part of the startup ecosystem in Greater Reading for a long time and stay involved with other local businesses.
Since the very beginning we’ve been involved with the Berks Launchbox. They’re a co-working space in downtown Reading that offers mentorship, accelerator programs and prototyping help. They’ve been incredibly influential in our journey and have connected us with helpful resources from other local businesses. The local businesses community in Greater Reading has been super supportive.
