BerksIDA Has Redevelopment in Mind with Acquisition of Long-Vacant Glidden Property

The former Glidden site at 1853 N. 3rd St. in Reading has taken a major step toward redevelopment with its acquisition by BerksIDA. After sitting unused for years, the 19.4-acre site, once a chemical and paint manufacturing facility, will undergo environmental redevelopment in partnership with the Department of Environmental Protection and Shuman Development Group. Plans include a retail shopping center on the southern portion and commercial redevelopment on the northern section. This marks BerksIDA’s first land acquisition and development project within the city, reinforcing its role as a driving force for revitalization.
