Ashley Chambers

Ashley Chambers, Senior Vice President of Community Impact, United Way of Berks County
Lives in Reading.

Ashley Chambers leads the Community Impact team, which is responsible for determining community needs, making investments through grants to address those needs, and managing the Ready.Set.READ! early grade literacy initiative. Her role is to oversee all the processes and ensure effective stewardship of the dollars raised to meet these critical community issues.

United Way of Berks County seeks to help people in need and address critical issues to make our community a better place for everyone. Each year dollars raised are invested back into the community through grants to organizations addressing health and human services needs. Team United organizes activities and lunches throughout the year for team building.

Chambers loves working in the non-profit field. In her previous roles, there was a specific area of focus for the organization whether it be workforce development or after-school activities. What she finds most rewarding about working at the United Way of Berks County is the opportunity to engage with not just one area but the whole spectrum of health and human services.

Greater Reading provides all the excitement of a big city without the hassle, according to Chambers. On some random day, she could start the morning at the gym, then work a full day so she has the evening free for dinner and a show. All this is done without sitting in traffic or worrying that she will not get home until after midnight.

United Way of Berks County is part of the larger United Way network that provides professional development opportunities throughout the year. What’s great about being a part of the network is learning best practices from counterparts in other communities. The organization encourages staff to seek out opportunities of interest and promotes cross-training across departments.
